SYMI

Symi is a tiny island in the Dodecanese, an hour from Rhodes by boat. It’s small and secretive, but without question, it is one of the most spectacular Greek islands, pulling travellers to it and compelling them to return with its unique architecture, energy and landscape. There's magic here.

On arrival Symi opens itself up to reveal rows of ice-cream coloured mini-mansions floating above a horseshoe harbour. There's a peaceful weightlessness, but a dizzying energy too. A blend of stillness and inspiration make it ideal for creative retreats. Whether you want to escape burnout or charge your creativity, Symi has what you need.

The key to Symi's appeal is its authentic character. Blending culture, history and dramatic landscapes, Symi will dazzle you with beauty, humble you with scale and immerse you in Greek life. People live and work in this community all year, giving it an authenticity often missed in more touristic islands. But there's real beauty here to rival Mykonos and Santorini. There are stunning beaches, crystal clear Aegean water and inland, the rugged mountains are alive with forests, wildflowers and herbs.

But Symi has many faces. Beyond the great beauty of the harbour, is the crumbling grandeur of the village, Chorio. If you climb the steps of the Kali Strata and explore the ruins and narrow stone streets, you'll see an enticing suggestion of Greek island life at the turn of the century. Long-deserted houses, tunnels and overgrown alleyways give an authentic flavour of Symi's opulent past and the devastation and exodus that followed. A walk in the ruins will transport to another time and connect you to the soul of the island.

Symi has a reputation for calling people to it. It's a romantic mystery and locally accepted that the island finds the people it wants. There's a magnetism that draws in travellers and then tethers them.
Visitors often return.
An interval in Symi, gives you the chance to immerse yourself in this truly special place, to do more than a standard Greek island holiday and to connect to a unique creative energy.
